March 2004
March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Reel Eyes Film Series
All Reel Eyes Films shown at UAA are available through the Disability
Support Services Lending Library and can be borrowed.
Reel Eyes is a showcase featuring films by and about people
with disabilities. The selected films will comprise a range
of themes
that offer alternative representations of people with disabilities.
By hosting films that explore the lives of people with disabilities,
Anchorage will become part of a growing number of visionary cities
such as Los Angeles, Berkeley, New York, Calgary, London, and Moscow
that sponsor disability film festivals. The medium of film is a
powerful creative force that shapes our perceptions and influences
our opinions. The films that have been selected for “Reel
Eyes” are thought provoking, unique, critically acclaimed,
and in many cases, award-winning. Films that entertain as well
as inform can be agents of change. Films that challenge our assumptions
will allow the audience to realize:
the viewpoint of people who experience disabilities;
media representations of people with disabilities can be positive,
multi-faceted, and unique;
that people with disabilities have stories to tell.
